I moved the forums back from snackbargames.com to snackbar-games.com so I can test move the snackbargames.com domain to the new server. All the site links have been updated so you shouldn't run into any issues.

Edit (5/28 @ 2:58pm CST): I have moved the snackbargames.com domain to the new site and moved the forums and disabled the forums on the old domain. I put in a few tweaks so you shouldn't hit the old forums. I am moving the snackbar-games.com domain over as we speak.

Playstation 3 to win next generation console war?

Wayne wrote:
According to industry analysts, the Playstation 3 will have a slow start because of price, but as the price goes down, it will pick up speed and in the end become the best selling system of the next generation. Now, this is assuming the price drops. Sony did say that it never will, but as I've mentioned in the past, I just think that's a BS way of tricking consumers to buy it at launch. After all, if it really was going to be $600 whether it be at launch or two years after, when would you buy it? Clever strategy, but they can't fool me.

The good news for Sony haters is that these same analysts predict that the Playstation 3 won't have quite as large a lead on the competition as it did in the last generation. Either way, this should be interesting.

New version of GP2X

JoeHonkie wrote:
For those of you who don't know, the GP2X is an extremely homebrew friendly handheld with USB and SD-card support that is descended from a Korean portable gaming system. It's fairly powerful for 2d gaming and video apps, but almost entirely community supported. Still I know a lot of people who were fans of the previous versions, and I'm sure they'll be glad to know it's still profitable enough to justify a slight hardware update.

E3 06: No Square Enix love for the 360?

Piniata wrote:
Well, it seems so that way. The GBA, DS, Wii, PSP, PS2, PS3, and even mobile phones will be getting their fair share of SE loving, but where is MS? Other than FFXI (that recieved rather meh ratings) and some expansions, it seems that the 360, like the Xbox will not be getting SE loving. But there are rumors saying that MS is keeping announcements of games for their press conference... we shall see.

Spider-Man 3- (Next-gen systems, coming summer 2007). - Based on the third Spiderman movie coming in the summer of 2007.
Call of Duty 3- (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Xbox, PS2, coming fall 2006). - The followup to one of the most popular World War II FPS games, coming not only for next-gen machines (including the Wii), but the Xbox and PS2.
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, Xbox, PSP, GBA - coming 2006 fall). - An action RPG, similar to the popular X-Men Legends games, starring Marvel's most popular heroes.
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam- (Wii, NDS, GBA, coming 2006 fall) - A Tony Hawk game, exclusive to Nintendo's system. A reason to this may be is because the Wii and the DS could use unique capabilities, exlusive to those systems, such as the touch pad and the Wii's controller.
Tony Hawk's Project 8- (PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, Xbox, PSP - coming 2006) - Another member of the popular Tony Hawk franchise, most likely different than the Nintendo exclusive Downhill Jam.
Over the Hedge- (PS2, Xbox, GC, GBA, NDS - coming May 2006) - The game based on the animated movie coming soon.
X-Men 3: The Official Game- (Xbox 360, PS2, Xbox, GC, NDS, GBA - coming May 2006) - Game based on the third installment to the X-men movies, coming later in May.

PS3 News

Pretzel wrote:
I found this on IGN and other sites as the news keeps pouring in from E3, things are just crazy with info. But this just caught my attention. As they presented the new PS3 content, they also released new info on the price. For the 20 gig system it will run at $499 and the 60 gig system it will run at $599. As for the release date, it is said that the system will be out at the end of 2006 with two million units shipping.

To be quite honest, I don't know what to think about the price. But with all the info that is presented concerning the new PS3, I still am not jumping on the bandwagon.

E3 06: Motion Sensing PS3 Controller

It appears the boomerang may have been tossed and failed to return as designed. During the Sony press conference today while dev kits were being demoed a pair of silver Dual Shock looking controllers were used to play games. 1 of these controllers was wired and one was wireless. This wireless controller is also motion sensing with "six degrees of freedom" with no external sensor required. It will come standard with the PS3.

E3 06: PS3 Ship Date and Price

The hot topic for today is the news that Sony is releasing the PS3 on November 17th. The price you ask? $499 for the 20GB version and $599 for the 60GB version. I think it is time we all start saving our pennies.

Sony expects to ship 2 million units in the first month, 4 million by years end, and 6 million by the end of the fiscal year in March 2007. If Sony doesn't attempt as aggressive a launch as Microsoft they just might be able to hit those numbers, but it shall remain to be seen.

Grand Theft Auto: Oblivion

Wayne wrote:
For those of you who haven't heard yet, there's been an uproar at the ESRB because somebody used a third party hack to access a topless female file in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This is nearly the same thing that happened with San Andreas a good year or so ago.

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. Ok, so you can download a hack to look at some digital breasts. In the time it would take me to download said hack, I could download a bunch of nice crisp clear pictures of real women off the same internet.

Of course, this doesn't really apply to me, but if a kid is clever enough to know about and find the hack for this game that gives you a topless female, then he certainly knows how to find some internet porn.

In related news, John Romero is blaming the modding community for the recent uproar instead of the ESRB or the developers. While it is true that after San Andreas the ESRB changed the way it rates things, including hidden content that's on the disc, I still think this is a bunch of BS. Even so, John Romero (co-founder of iD Software) blames the modding community, not the developers, not the ESRB, and not anyone else who should actually be held responsible.

That is of course, if you even see this as a problem. Oh goodie. I can download a hack to see some boobies. Hooray for me...
